The Trinity Project

TRINITY PROJECT UPDATE (20 February 2012)

STOP PRESS! Official Opening of Trinity House - 17 March 2012

Yes, work on Trinity House, the Old Rectory, is nearly finished and it will be officially opened by the Archdeacon, Andy Piggott, on Saturday 17 March 2012. We will at last be able to see the fantastic transformation - those who knew it as it was will hardly recognise it!  Watch this space for further details nearer the day.

The Gift Day at the beginning of October last year raised another amazing amount of money, made up of straight gifts, long term giving and loans. We are so grateful for the generosity of so many people.

Tenders for the Trinity Centre came in during October last, but even the lowest came in significantly above our budget which was based on the estimate provided by our quantity surveyor. So there is a gap between what we have and what we need, and we are working with the architect to look for ways in which the price can be reduced, without losing the basic outline and appearance of the building. We are expecting updated information from the lowest tenderers shortly, and we hope we will be able to develop what we believe would be an acceptable contract price.

In the meantime additional funding opportunities are also being looked at.

The display boards in the TC Welcome Area show the latest plans, and have recently been updated. Please take a look and if you have any questions please ask any of the members of the groups listed.

Background

The Trinity Project is the name that has been given to the vision which will see the significant upgrading and expansion of the Trinity Centre premises next to the church, plus the development of the Old Rectory, purchased by the church last year, into a major resource for the ongoing mission of the church in Nailsea and beyond.

TP D

One of the basic principles behind the planning process has been to ensure that the wider community will benefit from both Rectory and Trinity Centre developments. The TC rooms will be completely refurbished and include the addition of a lounge area in the space formerly occupied by the church office and vestry and the space created by linking the TC to the Rectory. The Rectory will include our main admin office, a ‘youth area’ with residential facilities (two flats) upstairs. There will be significantly more accommodation available for outreach events and the gardens will be developed to permit a variety of events, but also to provide a quiet space in the middle of a busy community area.

The total vision for the Trinity Project has a number of different expressions:

  •          Welcome and hospitality
  •          A light and warm place to meet
  •          A visible and inviting entrance
  •          A social hub with a café area
  •          Worship and ministry
  •          A second venue
  •          An overflow
  •          Families and young people
  •          A place for young people and families
  •          A base for youth and children’s work, and perhaps housing for staff

TP G

  •          Sanctuary and haven
  •          Offering a ministry of healing and spiritual refreshment
  •          A sacred space to encounter God
  •          For retreat days
  •          Mission
  •          Providing a base for mission teams
  •          Offering help to other communities
  •          Engaging with world mission and social action
  •          Leadership, learning and resourcing
  •          Hosting leadership training days
  •          Providing a community house for students in training
  •          Administrative base
  •          Developing our offices (in support of all our priorities)
  •          Separating the business activities from our sacred and welcome areas

 TP F

But alongside the building work there is also the passionate desire to see growth in the spiritual life of the church, which is its people, and the local community which it serves.
